If you have been using Windows OS, then you know that several features and processes in the Windows Operating system are linked to the Windows File explorer. It’s unfortunate because the file explorer should only be linked to fine management but no other Windows 10 features like the taskbar. All these are the reason behind the performance issues experienced by users.

However, it’s a good thing that the Microsoft team has discovered this problem, and they are working towards the removal of the notification center, taskbar, and other features from explorer.exe. Desktop and file explore integration is the main setback in the Windows operating system. The reason is that unrelated app features can be unresponsive due to resource-intensive and heavy file operations taking place.

Whenever your explorer.exe crashes, it equally affects the desktop and features linked to it. But the good thing is that you can restore your OS functionality when you restart the process. But we have a strong hunch that decoupling Microsoft features from Microsoft explore in Windows 11 will improve the speed and performance of this new OS.

We don’t have to wait for long for this adjustment because Microsoft has already started this process by decoupling Impressive Shell from explorer.exe. Microsoft initially added impressive Shell to Windows 8, which brought Charms bar. However, this feature is associated with Shell appRuntime.exe process and linked to File explorer.

The development team has also been attempting to remove the Immersive shell from file explorer. Initially, Windows wasn’t able to launch ShellAppRuntime.exe but in the latest Windows 11 OS build, this has been fixed, implying that the removal of the impressive shell is almost succeeding; in fact, you can launch shellAppRuntime.exe independently.

This feature was initially linked to file explorer, but with the latest updates, it runs independently of explorer.exe. And due to this improvement, you won’t run Search UI before starting the ShellAppRuntime. Well, we understand that there are still several areas of the OS that are still integrated with file management processes.

We are confident that in the coming update for Windows 11, all the processes will be decoupled from file explorer. It, therefore, implies that these features won’t have to rely on explorer.exe for them to run. These major improvements will reduce the number of system crashes and overcome the speed performance issues experienced in the previous Windows OS builds if the explorer.exe crashes will not affect the desktop and other features.

However, users should be aware that the decoupling of features from file explorer is in the initial state, and it will take time for the changes to be felt. But we believe that these changes will open the way for a faster and easier development process and also improve the performance of Windows 11.
